PARIS – Major travel disruptions hit Eurostar services to London and trains across northern France on Friday after an unexploded WWII Bomb was discovered near the tracks at Gare du Nord, one of Europe’s busiest train stations.
Train Services Suspended for Safety
France’s national railway operator, SNCF, announced that all train traffic at Gare du Nord was halted until mid-morning following a police request.
“We invite travelers to postpone their trip,” SNCF stated, urging passengers to adjust their plans.
The disruption affected thousands of commuters, including those traveling to London via Eurostar, as well as connections to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and regional destinations.

Unexploded WWII Bomb: Rare Discovery in a High-Traffic Area
While unexploded bombs from World War I and World War II are frequently uncovered in France, such finds in heavily populated urban centers like Gare du Nord are extremely rare.
Authorities quickly moved to assess and neutralize the device to ensure public safety, with train services expected to resume after clearance operations.
For passengers affected by the delays, SNCF and Eurostar advised checking for updates and rebooking tickets as needed.
