Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Brutal Stabbing in Prison Attack

TEHACHAPI, CALIFORNIA — Rapper Tory Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized early Monday morning after a violent attack by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, according to prison officials.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time. “Staff immediately responded, activated 911, and began medical aid,” a spokesperson told media. “Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment.”

Stabbed 14 Times, Both Lungs Collapsed

While officials have not released details on the extent of his injuries, Lanez’s verified Instagram account posted a chilling update via Instagram Stories:

“Tory was stabbed 14 times, including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus. He is now breathing on his own.”

The post added that Lanez remains in good spirits despite the attack:

“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support.”

Legal Team Still in the Dark

Crystal Morgan, Peterson’s attorney, confirmed the attack to media, stating she had not yet been able to get an update on his condition and was “in the dark like everyone else.” She added that she had contacted Peterson’s family to notify them of the incident.

The Investigative Services Unit at the prison and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have launched a joint investigation. The Office of the Inspector General has also been notified.

Background: Shooting of Megan Thee Stallion

Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion (legal name: Megan Pete) in both feet following a July 2020 party in the Hollywood Hills.

He was found guilty on December 23, 2022, of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and did not testify in his own defense.

Prosecutors presented an emotional impact statement from Megan Pete during sentencing:

“He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul.”

Lanez was denied bond in September 2023 as his legal team continues to appeal the sentence.
