Two good Samaritans are being praised as heroes after they rescued a ride-share driver whose vehicle plunged into Morgan Creek at the Isle of Palms Marina near Charleston, South Carolina.
The dramatic rescue, which occurred Saturday night, was caught on a marina security camera and released Monday by the Isle of Palms Police Department.
Car Accident During Heavy Rain
According to police, the incident unfolded just after 9 p.m. when the driver, whose name has not been released, mistakenly drove into the creek during a rainstorm. Heavy downpours had obscured his vision, causing him to confuse the marina’s parking lot roadway with a nearby boat ramp.
Good Samaritans Spring Into Action
The two rescuers were attending a gathering at the marina when they saw the vehicle crash into the water and begin to sink.
One man immediately jumped over a railing into the creek, while the other ran down the boat ramp to assist. Together, they reached the driver and pulled him from the car just moments before it became fully submerged.

Driver Treated for Minor Injuries
Emergency responders transported the driver to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, authorities said.
“We are extremely grateful to the two men who acted quickly and heroically to save a life in need,” the Isle of Palms Police Department wrote in a statement.
Police Warn of Severe Weather Risks
Isle of Palms Police Chief Kevin Cornett emphasized the dangers of driving in heavy rain and flooding, particularly at night.
“This incident underscores the risks of severe weather conditions,” Cornett said. “Water can quickly obscure where the roadway ends and make it difficult to gauge depths.”
