Police in Southern California have arrested two men accused of stealing an estimated $60,000 in cash and checks from a wedding reception in Glendale on August 31.
Authorities identified Armean Shirehjini as the primary suspect after reviewing surveillance footage and other investigative leads. He was arrested on Thursday at his home in Sherman Oaks. Officers also arrested Andranik Avetisyan, who police say acted as the getaway driver.
Cash, Checks, and Weapons Recovered
During searches of both men’s residences, police recovered large sums of cash and dozens of stolen checks addressed to the newlywed couple. Investigators also seized firearms and drugs from additional properties linked to the suspects.
How the Wedding Theft Happened
Witnesses told police the suspect spent about 90 minutes at the wedding reception, appearing to watch the dance floor. Shortly before midnight, he allegedly took a gift box filled with cash and checks, then left the banquet hall.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect entering the passenger side of a black Mercedes SUV, which fled the scene.
