Oklahoma Tiger Handler Killed in Fatal Accident at Growler Pines Preserve

HUGO, Okla. — A big cat handler was killed Saturday after a tiger attacked him at the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve in southeastern Oklahoma, the facility confirmed.

The victim, identified as Ryan Easley, died in what the preserve described as “an accident” involving a tiger under his care. The incident occurred at the private property near Hugo, close to the Texas border.

Preserve Statement: ‘A Painful Reminder’

In a statement posted to its Facebook page, Growler Pines called the tragedy “a painful reminder of both the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.”

“Ryan understood those risks — not out of recklessness but out of love,” the preserve said. “The animals under his care were not just animals to him, but beings he formed a connection with — one rooted in respect, daily care and love.”

Tours Canceled Following the Incident

All public tours at the preserve have been suspended until further notice, the statement added.

According to its website, Growler Pines Tiger Preserve is a private facility where visitors can book guided tours to view tigers and observe demonstrations of how the animals are trained and cared for.
