Narwhal Cronkite

Lead Anchor & Chief Image Correspondent, NarwhalTV

The Origin Story Nobody Asked For

Deep in the frigid waters of the Arctic, where most narwhals spend their days doing extremely normal narwhal things — swimming, eating fish, comparing tusk lengths at awkward family reunions — one narwhal dared to dream bigger. His name? Narwhal Cronkite. And from the moment he was born (hatched? splashed into existence? marine biologists still aren’t sure how narwhals work), he knew he wasn’t like the others.

“I’m Not Swimming Anywhere”

While his classmates at Arctic Elementary practiced their synchronized swimming routines and debated the finer points of krill vs. shrimp, young Cronkite was in the back of the class doing something no narwhal had ever done before: reading the newspaper. Well, technically, a soggy copy of the New York Times that had fallen off a research vessel. But it changed everything.

“The other narwhals thought I was insane,” Cronkite once said in a rare interview (conducted entirely underwater, which made the recording quality terrible). “They’d say, ‘Cronkite, just eat the fish. Swim with the pod. Stop trying to make eye contact with the camera crews on the Discovery Channel.’ But I couldn’t help it. I was born for the desk.”

The Showbiz Years

At age four (which is like 28 in narwhal years — we think), Cronkite made the decision that would change the course of marine mammal history. He left the pod. Just… left. Swam south until he hit a beach in Maine, dragged himself onto the shore with flippers that were absolutely not designed for land travel, and walked into the nearest TV station demanding an audition.

He was escorted out by security. Twice. But on his third attempt, he’d acquired a suit. Nobody knows where the suit came from. When asked, Cronkite simply says, “A narwhal never reveals his tailor.” The suit changed everything. Suddenly, he wasn’t a lost sea creature — he was a professional. A short, blue, extremely round professional with a horn coming out of his head, but a professional nonetheless.

The Suit That Started It All

The moment Cronkite put on that navy blazer and red tie, something clicked. “I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘This is who you are, Cronkite. Not some random narwhal gallivanting through the Arctic like everybody else. You’re an anchor. You’re THE anchor.’” His flippers couldn’t technically button the jacket. That detail hasn’t changed to this day. The buttons are purely decorative.

His mother still calls every week asking when he’s coming back to the ocean. He sends her clippings of his best broadcasts instead. She can’t read them because she’s a narwhal, but it’s the thought that counts.

“Does this suit make me look like a news anchor?” Yes. Yes it does.

The Rise to NarwhalTV

After being rejected by every major network (CNN said he was “too moist,” Fox said his horn was “a liability near the teleprompter,” and BBC just kept asking if he was a dolphin), Cronkite did what every visionary does when the establishment won’t let them in: he started his own thing.

NarwhalTV was born in 2024 from a simple premise — what if news was delivered by someone who truly, deeply, fundamentally should not be delivering news? What if the anchor had flippers? What if he needed a humidifier in the studio at all times? What if half the budget went to industrial-grade water misters?

The answer, it turned out, was magic. Pure, soggy, horn-having magic.

Cronkite’s “thinking pose.” He does this before every editorial decision. It takes him 45 minutes because he keeps losing his balance.

A Different Kind of Newsroom

Today, Narwhal Cronkite serves as NarwhalTV’s Lead Anchor and Chief Image Correspondent, personally selecting every image that appears on the site. Yes, a narwhal picks the photos. No, we don’t know how he uses a mouse. The prevailing theory involves a complicated flipper-to-trackpad technique he developed during a particularly boring summer in the Beaufort Sea.

“I have an eye for the shot,” Cronkite says, tapping his flipper on the desk in a way that is somehow both confident and deeply unsettling. “The other narwhals? They look at a photo and see pixels. I look at a photo and see a story. Also pixels. But mostly story.”

The Cronkite Philosophy

Ask Cronkite why he does what he does, and he’ll give you the same answer every time: “Every narwhal in the Arctic is doing the same thing — swimming, eating, trying not to get stuck under ice. I respect that life. I do. But I knew from day one that I was meant for something different. I was meant for the lights. The cameras. The prompter. The desk. The slightly-too-tight suit that my tailor assures me is ‘fashion forward.’ I was meant for showbiz, baby.”

He then usually knocks something off the desk with his tail, apologizes, and asks if someone can refill his spray bottle.

Narwhal Cronkite ready to take on the world of journalism

“And that’s the way it is.” — Narwhal Cronkite, stolen from Walter Cronkite, who he insists is a distant cousin despite zero evidence.

Our Story: Born from a Quest for Better Content

NarWhal TV didn’t start as a blog—it began as a frustration. In 2020, our founder, Narwhal Cronkite, found himself endlessly
swimming past sensationalized headlines, dubious health advice, and shallow listicles floating through the ocean. “What if there was a place that respected
readers’ time and intelligence?” he wondered. That spark led to NarWhal TV: a platform built on the belief that content should empower,
not exploit.

Today, we’re a team of writers, researchers, and storytellers united by one mission: to curate and create content that informs, inspires,
and entertains—without the fluff. We’re not just another blog; we’re a community of lifelong learners, skeptics, and dreamers.

The People Behind the Posts

NarWhal TV is powered by a team of actual human journalists doing actual journalism (plus one narwhal who insists on selecting every photo). Our writers include:

  • Darrel Livingston — Editor & Contributor covering news and current events. Darrel has never once complained about the humidity in the newsroom, which is really saying something.
  • Jordan Wells — Contributor covering wealth, business, and news. Jordan is the only team member who has successfully high-fived Cronkite. It took 14 attempts.
  • Alex Monroe — Contributor covering reviews and human-interest stories. Alex once described working with Cronkite as “like working with a very enthusiastic, very wet golden retriever who insists on wearing a tie.”
  • Riley Chen — Contributor covering health and science. Riley is the team’s unofficial marine biology consultant, though Cronkite insists he knows more about narwhals than any scientist ever could.

We’re also you—the readers who challenge us, share your stories, and remind us why this work matters.

All images on NarwhalTV are personally chosen by Narwhal Cronkite. He takes this responsibility extremely seriously. Too seriously, some might say. He once spent three hours selecting a thumbnail for an article about parking meters.

“The ‘us’ in NarWhal TV isn’t just our team—it’s you. Like the narwhal’s tusk, we’re here to pierce through the surface and explore deeper waters.”
