Austin Target Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Suspect in Custody

AUSTIN, Texas — Three people are dead and a 32-year-old suspect is in custody following a shooting outside a Target store in Austin on Monday afternoon, police confirmed.

Shooting Reported in Target Parking Lot

Authorities said they received a call about gunfire at the Target on Research Boulevard at approximately 2:15 p.m. When officers arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was the owner of a vehicle the suspect allegedly stole from the Target parking lot before fleeing the scene, police said during a press briefing.

Suspect Fled and Stole Multiple Vehicles

After leaving the Target area, the suspect reportedly crashed the stolen car and stole another vehicle from a nearby dealership.

Police later located the suspect in southern Austin after receiving a call from a witness. Details about what prompted the witness to contact authorities remain unclear.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Officers subdued the suspect using a Taser before taking him into custody. No further details about the suspect’s motive have been released.

Austin-Travis County EMS initially reported four victims, but the count was later corrected to three.
