Authorities in West Palm Beach, Florida, have arrested 46-year-old Florida Man Shannon Depararro Atkins for allegedly posting violent threats against former President Donald Trump on social media. Atkins was apprehended during a traffic stop near his home, located a short distance from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

According to West Palm Beach Police Chief Tony Araujo, Atkins had posted “violent rhetoric” about Trump on his Facebook account, including a meme referencing the assassination attempt on Trump in July 2024.
Social Media Posts Raise Alarms
Chief Araujo, speaking during a Saturday press conference, displayed one of Atkins’ concerning posts. Police reported that Atkins admitted to making the posts but claimed they were meant as a joke.
“Folks, this is not a joke. Nothing of that sort is a joke,” Araujo stated firmly.
FBI Tip Leads to Arrest
The investigation began when a man from Okeechobee, Florida, tipped off the FBI about Atkins’ online activity. This prompted local police to take action.
Atkins was arrested without incident on Friday night. During the arrest, police discovered cocaine in his possession, adding to his legal troubles.
Federal Investigation Underway
The U.S. Secret Service has been notified of the arrest and is evaluating whether federal charges will be filed against Atkins.
“In today’s climate, you really can’t say things like this,” Araujo said. “We have incident after incident, example after example, of when these threats become real, and we take these very seriously.”
