Five-alarm fire erupts at apartment project
More than 100 firefighters responded Friday evening to a large fire that escalated to five alarms at an apartment-building construction site in Denver, officials said. The burning structure covered roughly a full city block, and crews spent hours trying to stop the flames from reaching neighboring buildings.
Firefighter injured; evacuations ordered nearby
One firefighter was hurt while fighting the blaze and was taken to a hospital, the Denver Fire Department told media. No other injuries were immediately reported.
Because of the intensity of the fire, evacuation orders were issued for nearby residents.

Crews report deep pockets of fire as containment grows
Late Friday, officials said the incident was largely under control but not fully extinguished. They estimated the fire was about 70% contained, with areas of stubborn, deep-seated burning still inside the structure.
Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene through the night to fully extinguish hot spots.
Wood-heavy construction and no cause announced
Officials said the building was in the early to mid-stages of construction and was primarily wood, with some plastic materials used for wrapping and construction.
The cause of the fire had not been announced.
