LONDON — Russia Ukraine drone attack -Just hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia launched over 100 drones into Ukraine, according to Ukraine’s air force. The aerial assault came as Trump claimed peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv would resume “immediately.”
Ukraine’s Air Force announced on Telegram that 108 Russian drones were launched overnight. Thirty-five were shot down, and 58 more were jammed or neutralized, with reported damage across four Ukrainian regions.
Russia and Ukraine Exchange Overnight Drone Attacks
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed its forces downed eight Ukrainian drones in retaliation. Nightly drone exchanges have become increasingly common and more sophisticated over the three-year conflict, escalating tensions even as diplomatic rhetoric promises de-escalation.

Trump Claims Peace Is Possible, Despite Escalation
After a two-hour phone call with Putin, Trump expressed optimism that a peace deal was within reach.
“It’s a very, very big egos involved… but I think something’s going to happen,” Trump told reporters.
“If I thought President Putin didn’t want to end this, I wouldn’t even be talking about it.”
Despite a failed Istanbul meeting between Ukrainian and Russian negotiators, Trump reiterated on Truth Social that negotiations would begin “immediately,” although no official agreement has been confirmed.

Kyiv Urges for Ceasefire While Kremlin Deflects
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke with Trump, reiterating Ukraine’s willingness to enter into a full and unconditional ceasefire.
“Now the world can see whether its leaders have the capacity to ensure an end to the war and the establishment of a real, lasting peace,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
He emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement and warned against diluting Ukraine’s ceasefire offer, calling on the international community to apply more sanctions on Russia if it resists peace efforts.
Russia Ukraine Drone Attack: Kremlin Shows No Signs of Compromise
Putin’s statement after the Trump call offered no concessions. He reiterated Russia’s commitment to removing the “root causes” of the war, as per the Kremlin’s official readout.
Russia’s demands remain unchanged: the annexation of four Ukrainian regions, retention of Crimea, Ukraine’s demilitarization, a NATO membership ban, and “denazification” — a baseless pretext for ongoing aggression.
Global Stakes Remain High as Pressure Builds
Zelenskyy concluded by urging the U.S. not to withdraw from the peace process.
“If Putin delays or blocks real negotiations,” he wrote, “America and the world must act accordingly, including through additional sanctions.”
Despite Trump’s assertions of progress, the latest Russia Ukraine drone attack underscores the wide gulf between diplomatic aspirations and battlefield realities.
