A South Carolina man was fatally shot after entering a booby-trapped residence in Saint Matthews on Monday evening, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a reported shooting and found 34-year-old Jordan Dove, of Lugoff, South Carolina, suffering from a gunshot wound. He had been checking on a vacant home owned by a family member when the trap was triggered, officials said.
Booby Trap Discovered Inside Home
Upon arrival, investigators quickly determined that the gunfire came from inside the residence. Deputies found a shotgun rigged at the back door, designed to discharge upon entry. The firearm was dismantled for safety while authorities processed the scene.
The front door was also barricaded, and no other individuals were inside the house at the time, police confirmed.

Victim Did Not Survive Injuries
Dove was transported to the hospital by Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services, but he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Sheriff Thomas Summers stated that the booby trap appeared to be set up as a targeted attack on law enforcement.
“It is yet another example of the dangers faced by law enforcement every day,” Summers said.

Homeowner Facing Charges
Authorities identified the homeowner as Alfonzo Brown, who is currently incarcerated out of state. Police confirmed that charges will be forthcoming against him in connection with the incident.
Officials assured the public that this was an isolated case and posed no ongoing threat.
