NEW YORK – Segway has announced the recall of approximately 220,000 scooters sold across the U.S. due to a faulty folding mechanism that has resulted in multiple injuries, including broken bones, bruises, and lacerations.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Ninebot Max G30P and Ninebot Max G30LP KickScooters are affected by this recall. The handlebars and stem may unexpectedly fold during use, leading to serious falls.
Reports of Injuries and Safety Concerns
The CPSC recall notice, issued Thursday, confirms that Segway has received 68 reports of folding mechanism failures, with 20 documented injuries, ranging from abrasions and bruises to more severe fractures.
Consumer Advisory: Stop Use Immediately
Segway is urging all consumers who own these recalled scooters to immediately stop using them and request a free maintenance kit.
This kit includes tools and step-by-step instructions to inspect and adjust the scooter’s locking mechanism as necessary.
“Over time, depending on riding conditions, the folding mechanism may require periodic checks and tightening,” Segway stated on its website, emphasizing that no returns or replacements are involved in the recall.
