Multi-State Health Notice Issued for Contaminated Tofu Batches
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with state health departments issued an urgent recall notice for more than 10,000 cases of commercially distributed tofu products sold across New York and 28 additional states. The recall was initiated after quality control testing revealed potential packaging ink migration into the food product.
Retail distributors and grocery chains have been instructed to immediately remove affected product lots from store shelves and notify consumers who purchased the items.
Affected Lot Numbers and Consumer Advisory
The recalled tofu packages involve select expiration dates printed on the container seals distributed between July and August. Health officials advise consumers who purchased the affected lots to discard the product immediately or return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
No severe illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date, but medical experts warn that consuming chemical ink residue poses potential digestive hazards.
Manufacturing Response and Quality Audits
The processing manufacturer confirmed that production lines have been temporarily suspended while third-party food safety auditors review packaging material specifications and sealing protocols. Corrective actions are being implemented to ensure all future product distribution meets federal standards.
