Hawaii Doctor Gerhardt Konig Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder

Gerhardt Konig, 46, entered the plea in response to charges that he attempted to kill his wife, Arielle Konig, during what was supposed to be a birthday celebration hike on March 24 along Oahu’s Pali Puka Trail.

Defense Responds: “There Are Two Sides to Every Story”

Konig’s attorney, Thomas Otake, released a statement saying the plea is a “substantive response to the allegation.”

“There are two sides to every story, and thus far only one side has been shared,” Otake stated. “The other side to this story will be shared within the court process at the appropriate time.”

Gerhardt Konig: Allegations of a Brutal Attack

According to court documents, Arielle Konig said her husband invited her on the trail to celebrate her birthday. When he asked her to take a selfie near a steep cliff edge, she declined, stating she felt unsafe.

The documents allege that Gerhardt Konig became angry, yelled at her to return to the edge, and then pushed her into the bushes.

As she resisted, he allegedly struck her in the head with a rock up to 10 times and smashed her face into the ground. She also reported that he pulled two syringes from his backpack and tried to inject her, but she managed to wrestle them away.

Intervention and Arrest

Another hiker arrived on the scene, at which point Arielle Konig cried out, “He is trying to kill me!” The bystander helped prevent further harm.

Authorities confirmed that Gerhardt Konig was arrested and has been charged with second-degree attempted murder.

The case is ongoing, and no trial date has yet been set. Authorities and legal teams continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.
